Stories of a 9-1-1 dispatcher.

Dispatcher: 9-1-1 what is your emergency?

Caller (Elderly Lady): Yes, I'm over here at the (talking to someone else: what is this place again?), surgery waiting area and I'm supposed to have an ultrasound done, and I need to know where to go from here.

Dispatcher: I don't know ma'am, this is 9-1-1 and emergency line.

Caller: Well this is an emergency I need to know where to go.

Dispatcher: (Noticing the lady is calling from Moffitt hosiptal phone number), is there a staff member there with you?

Caller: Well he walked away, but there is a lady right here beside me, I guess she'll talk to you.

Dispatcher: Ok

Staff Member: Hello?

Dispatcher: Yes, this is 9-1-1 emergency and.....

Staff Member Interupts: Oh, I'm sorry she must have dialed the wrong number.  (Hangs up)

Another hobby of mine!

As you can see I'm a huge fan of Lego.  I can't wait for LegoLand to open in October 2011 in the old Cypress Gardens park here in Florida.  I am contemplating season passes to the park as well.  The houses you see in this photo are able to be built into two other style homes.  The T-Rex in the middle can also be built into an alligator or a pirahna.

If you look closely you can see Lego Capt. Jack Sparrow on the tan house just above the blue and white awning.  I got him when I ordered the Lego Pirates of the Caribbean video game.  I have the SpongeBob characters jumping in the swimming pool in the front to escape the T-Rex and the cop car driving away as fast as he can because that is not part of his job.  He will later notify animal control!  Meanwhile, the robbers in the front yard are dropping their loot and making a run for it.  The K-9 unit is also headed into the house to cower in the corner.

When I build the three into something different, I will re-post with another picture.

Purple Sea

I found the most amazing purple picture of a sunset at sea.  I love this picture and I am going to put it on my phone.  Awesome!

Today At Work!

OMG!  Today at work we had some severe thunder storms and even tornados in the area.  We as the police department for a university put out an alert for the tornado warning that was issued so everyone would be informed to stay in doors.  After that alert went out, our phones lit up with calls from students, "Are classes cancelled?", and parents, "should my son/daughter stay home?", and from staff, "What are the loud speakers saying I don't understand them."

A few hours after that passed, we got another bad storm come through, but luckily no tornado warnings.  I'm busy typing away at my computer work station when all of the sudden, a loud sparking noise occurrs right behind my 9-1-1 console.  I screamed, my co-worker pushed her chair back from the desk and I was calling over the radio for an officer to come in dispatch to check things out.  My co-worker said she felt something on her arms.  She said it was something like the static electricity you would feel from a balloon.  No smoke or fire broke out.  We called in the I.T. person who checked out the electrical stuff, and everything was working properly.  Except for the dispatchers who were patting down their hair.  LOL

3D Puzzle

This was a Christmas gift from my wonderful husband and it took me about a week of working on it here and there to finish.  The problem I always run into is where to put the puzzle when I'm not working on it.  I don't have a puzzle designated table.  So, this was especially difficult for me.  I've never tried to put a 3D puzzle together, this is my first one.  I'm very proud of myself.

My hobbie

If you don't know me, then you wouldn't know that I am sort of a crafty person.  I make all sorts of things from origami to scrapbooking.  I made a snoopy this past Christmas 2010 for my office because an officer brought in a Charlie Brown Christmas tree for our dispatch center.  This is the result of my folding approximately 600 pieces of square papers and four days worth of folding.  Yeah, talk about time consuming!  Each piece of paper is approximately 2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall, then each piece is stuffed together in such a way that you can make just about anything you want.

More camera fun!

Here are some more examples of the color swap function on my camera.  This is my book mark that I made myself and it is originally pink and purple, the purple color might look dark blue though.  Anyway, you will see how many different options I found.

Work Humor.

Ok the funniest 9-1-1 call I've gotten so far is from what sounded like an Indian woman that stated she was having sharp pains in her breasts.  She asked if a police officer could either bring her medicine to make it stop or bring her a pump to "get her milk out."

I simply and politely stated that we don't have that kind of equipment. Speaking from experience, I told her that yes it is very discomforting if she does not pump and that she would need to go home and pump.  She mumbled some words I couldn't understand and said thank you, then a man got on the phone and told me that her husband would take her home to take care of the problem.

True story, just happened to me today!  :o)

Camera Time!

Ok, I want everyone to know that I love playing with my camera.  I discovered a new setting on my Cannon Powershot.  For you camera nuts out there it is a SD1000 Digital Elph 7.1 mega pixels.  The setting I discovered is color swap.  So in this next picture I took of a sea anemone that I got in searching through google images the anemone is originally purple, favorite color, and then I changed it to look sort of redish pinkish color.  Take a look!

How awesome is that?  Oh I played with this for hours.

First posting for a brand new blog!

Here is a poem I wrote in 2006 for my father.

I'm going to quote the song from John Mayer, "Say what you need to say."
